Medical health workers who serve on the frontline against the Covid-19 pandemic thanked Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte for her tribute to them, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

“Bilang isang front-liner, ang binigay na pagkilala ni mayora sa amin ay nakakapagpalakas ng loob upang mas pagbutihin pa ang aming mga tungkulin para sa bayan (as a front-liner, the tribute given to us by the mayor makes us strong in continuing our responsibilities for the country),” Jared Acasio said in a post on Facebook on Tuesday.

Belmonte, during her second State of the City Address (SOCA) on Monday, honored the city’s front-liners and other health workers for their dedication and perseverance in fighting the pandemic and caring for the patients.

She said their hard work is instrumental in gaining significant grounds in the fight against the pandemic.

“We’ve witnessed incredible heroism from our workers. They resolutely fulfilled their duties even in the face of mortal danger," Belmonte said in her SOCA.

She said the sacrifices made by front-liners helped the city improve from its’ former third-place rank in the whole NCR in terms of Covid-19 cases per capita to its current ranking at no. 15 out of the 17 local governments in Metro Manila.

Belmonte added that as of October 10, the recovery rate of the city stood at 85 percent, and its positivity rate went down to 9 percent from almost 20 percent.

Arlyn Sunga, another front-liner in QC, recognized the sacrifices made by the city’s officials as well.

“Bilang isang punong lungsod, taos puso din po kaming nag papasalamat sa mga sakripisyo ninyo sa amin Mayor Joy (as the mayor, we heartfully thank you, Mayor Joy, for all your sacrifices for us),” she said.

Other residents also posted their appreciation to Belmonte for the city's’ efforts in protecting its constituents and helping those who got infected with Covid-19.

Residents also lauded front-liners' contribution in the fight against the disease.

“We saw all the sacrifices made by our front-liners who hardly had rested. They sacrifice even their own health and safety to help the country. Mayor Joy also saw these and she only wants to repay them,” Marisol Robiso said in a post written in a mix of English and Filipino.

To better fight the pandemic, Belmonte said the city focused on improving their test, isolate, trace, and treat capability.

She said the city government also built two mobile testing units and inaugurated its own molecular laboratory to boost its testing capacity.
