Quezon City eyes to inoculate 113,000 residents

Around 113,000 Quezon City residents may be vaccinated against COVID-19 in the next three to four days following the launching of the local government of a new way to register for its inoculation program, Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a report by Manila Bulletin.

Despite technical difficulties recently experienced by residents who were booking their vaccination appointments through a third-party service provider, Belmonte expressed confidence that this time, her constituents will all be accommodated when using the local government’s VaxEasy platform.

So far, there are still “no problems” encountered when using the new platform. “In fact, it’s been smooth sailing,” Belmonte added in a CNN interview.

On Tuesday night, the local government scrapped its contract with Zuellig Pharma Corporation for vaccination booking appointment services due to its supposedly inefficient system. Residents using the company’s eZConsult website had a hard time making appointments.

With its new platform, Belmonte said the local government is targeting to inoculate around 35,000 a day.

She assured that the city’s vaccine supply is enough given the recent arrival of about 170,000 total doses of Sinovac and Moderna vaccines.

“We look forward to finishing way before the six months period that is given to us,” Belmonte said when asked when the local government will achieve herd immunity or be able to inoculate 70 percent of its total population of around 1.7 million.

“We can easily finish by September at the latest,” she added.

Around 575,000 residents already received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 227,000 completed their jab.
