QC to build sport academy
Mayor Joy Belmonte is planning to construct a sports academy to find prospective athletes who can compete with Senator Manny Pacquiao's talent in boxing or represent the nation in global competitions.
Belmonte said the creation of a sports academy is part of her push for the revival of Quezon City’s sports program
Belmonte said President Duterte’s push for the creation of a National Academy of Sports for High School students during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) is an ideal complement to the city’s sports development plan.
During the latter part of her third and final term as Vice Mayor and presiding officer of the Quezon City Council, the city crafted a comprehensive sports code, including a sports program for the youth in communities and schools.
Belmonte asked Vice Mayor Gian Sotto to certify as urgent the passage of the extensive sports code so that it can be enforced as quickly as possible.
