The Quezon City Police District has vowed to strengthen its anti-criminality operations in the city with the onset of the "ber" months.

QCPD director, PBGen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., said previous observations in the past years showed a slight increase on crime incidents during “ber months” including robbery, theft and physical injury.

According to Esquivel, these crimes could be attributed to usual “vibrant economic activities” during the holiday season.

“Sa tuwing ‘ber’ months kasi, boom ang businesses; maraming pera at gustong ma-enjoy ng marami ang mahabang holiday season; kaya kung minsan sinasamantala ito ng mga may masasamang loob (Every ‘ber’ months, businesses are booming. There’s a lot of money and many people want to enjoy the holiday season which criminals took advantage of),” he explained.

“Sa ganitong panahon, tayo ay mas nagiging alerto na pangalagaan ang seguridad ng ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan ng increased police visibility and presence upang mapigilan ang mga kriminal na isagawa ang kanilang masamang balak (At this time, we are becoming more alert to safeguard the security of our people through increased police visibility to prevent criminals from carrying out their schemes),” Esquivel added.

The QCPD chief bared that he already directed his 12 station commanders and other unit heads to increase police presence in their areas of responsibility and to intensify their anti-criminality operations.

“We want the people to be safe and secured in the streets, at homes, work-place and anywhere in Quezon City to enjoy the holiday season by not being victimized by criminals,” he stated.

Based on a data from QCPD, the most number of index crimes (robbery, theft, carnapping, physical injury, homicide and murder) from January to August 2019 was recorded in Barangay Socorro with 156 crimes.

This was followed by Barangay Batasan Hills with 92 crimes registered; Barangays Bagong Pag-asa and Fairview both 89; Barangay Commonwealth, 83; Barangay Payatas, 81; Barangay South Triangle, 67; Barangay Greater Lagro, 64; Barangay E. Rodriguez, 54; and Barangay Holy Spirit, 45.

Respective station commanders which have jurisdiction over these barangays were ordered to coordinate with barangay authorities and map out plans to improve security measures in the said areas.

Esquivel also called on the public to report any crime in Quezon City through QCPD Hotline at 09178403925 and DD’s Tipline at 09178611870.
